On January 4 and 5, 2014, the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwuakee, Wisconsin will host the US Masters Single Distance Championships. This event is open to long track skaters of all ability levels; the only entry requirement is that you be over age 30. Skaters can compete in races from 500 to 5000 meters, and the event will decide the US Masters Champions in five-year age groups from 30 to (hopefully) over 80. The Masters Single Distance Championship meet is the big event of the skating season for many masters, and in addition to providing a great opportunity to race with people your own age, it usually features a Saturday night party and a post-race lunch. Not a bad way to start the New Year!
To register for the event, go to the US Speedskating event calendar and follow the directions. To see who has already signed up for what, go to this Masters Speedskating website.
See you at the Pettit!
